Q: Do you make this stuff up?
A: No. How could I? Everything here is true and part of my daily life. When I started this process, I decided to be true to myself and anyone who happened to read this and write real things that happen. I really don't think my life is any crazier than other working women. I am just silly enough to make my chaos public.
Q: Did you really get asked to be on the Oprah show?
A: Yes, I was screened to be a guest for Harpo, about 4 years ago. I owned an Internet business for 7 years and taught myself PR, marketing and all that fun stuff. I regularly submitted information to Harpo (if you want suggestions on that, e-mail me) and eventually they called. The problem was, the show was about 'Millionaire Moms.' Not 'Middle Income moms.' So, I didn't qualify then (nor would I now!) but it was a fun process to talk to their producers, submit our company information and learn some of the behind the scenes processes involving talk shows. About a week after we sold our business in 2006, we were also called to be on the Rachel Ray show. This was not an interview-they wanted us there in about 48 hours to be on live TV. And, with my luck, we had just inked the deal and sold the business, no Rachel Ray.
Q: Where did you get the name for the Blog, what does it mean?
A: Choosing website names is a lot trickier now than it was ten years ago when I started my online business. All the good names are gone. Even so, I had an idea I wanted to capture: I meet and work with so many working moms and I am always fascinated by the many layers of these women. We are wives, mothers, employees, co-workers, and friends. But, ultimately, I feel like being a mom affects every part of our life. I may be the working mom one moment, the swim team mom, the next, the friend mom another time. My thought was to show people the different aspects, emotions, feelings, trials and tributes that go into parenting, and working outside of the home, which is why I called the Blog 'Show Me The Mom.' You never know which version of mom you will see today.
Q: Who designed your website?
A: My site was originally done by Erin at DesignerBlogs.com. Erin did all of the graphic art on my site and had it up and installed in one evening-amazing. Recently, I decided to change my layout somewhat, and I went back to Erin for help with that. What you see now is a combination of her work and my learning CSS code in my (ha ha) spare time. She's great, I cannot recommend her enough.
Q: What's up with the Cheeze Its and Diet Coke?
A: I'm waiting on Nabisco to call me. No really, if I was stranded on a desert island, and needed only two things to survive, it would be Cheeze Its and Diet Coke. I am inexplicably hooked on them both, have tried many times to un-Diet Coke myself, and have given up hope and joined the Diet Coke dark side. As for the Cheeze Its, if there is ever a Cheeze It bake off or recipe contest, I could win it. Well, maybe not since I don't cook. But I could win a Cheeze It eating contest, no question. It's crazy, I know, I cannot explain. In fact just writing about them is making me hungry, let me find my box.
Q: What's your job?
A: My job is wife and mom. During the day, I work in a profession that allows me to make my grad school student loan payments, and still sleep at night, most of the time. However, I also owned an internet business for 7 years that was featured in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, and several other magazines. Just before I was sucked into starting the Internet business, during the 'net boom of 1999, I was trained as a post partum doula and had my own client list, working with women in the Houston area. Somewhere in between all of that, I earned an MBA with a 4.0 GPA(but who's counting?), and have worked with my husband to raise three great (on most days) boys (two teens, one almost teen,) and some of their friends.
Q: How do you find time to blog if you work full time?
A: If you can't already tell, I'm not Type A, I'm more like Type AAAAA. There are days that I pray to God to just, for one day, make me a Type B so I can see what that feels like. I blog at night or in the morning, and so far it's worked out. My husband has been very understanding. So far,
